Initially settled in 1649, today the town of Hanover is a part of the South Shore of Massachusetts. Bordered by Pembroke, Hanson, Norwell and Rockland, the town is located in Plymouth county. You may have seen Hanover on lists of best places to live in Massachusetts due to its peaceful and industrious residential community.
Hanover is a town with sturdy homes of all sizes. From single family homes to larger multi-family houses, Hanoverhas a lot to offer. The housing stock in Hanover is very similar to its neighboring town of Norwell characterized by larger grounds than found elsewhere in Massachusetts.
Hanover boasts of its own school system with 3 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. This doesn’t mean that the town is lacking in recreational activities. Hanover has its very own mall with various retail shops. Characterized by brands, amenities and other facilities, the Hanover Mall is often a great place to spend a lazy afternoon with neighboring friends and families. The town also holds many recreational activities for children, teenagers and adults. From egg hunts to school dances, the town is a lively and happening place for everyone.
Beginning in on June 24, 2006 the Hanover Cultural Council held it’s first Hanover Day celebration. Since then there has been an ever changing variety of live music, carnival games, road races, art shows, food vendors, 3 on 3 basketball tournaments and the occasional Super Bowl winning New England Patriots playermaking an appearance. Many of the towns civic organizations, local businesses and individuals participate in this wonderful day of fun, all with the common goal of building community and showcasing the talents and specialties of local residents. Proceeds from event are given back to the community in the form of grants for the arts, sciences & humanities.
Built in 1971 and renovated in 1999, the Hanover Mall was formerly an enclosed shopping mall with approximately 80 stores, shops and restaurants including Macy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Footlocker, Lids, Old Navy, Trader Joe’s and Outback Steakhouse. Scheduled for completion in 2021, "Hanover Crossing will be an exciting mixed-use location that combines an open-air retail experience with 297 high-end residential units to form an amenities-rich 'Live, Work, Play' destination experience."
